Barnard Castle Golf Club | Robert Dinwiddie
In recent years Barnard Castle has produced golfers who have made headlines at local and County level.
Mark Brown was a regular in the Durham County team for several years, and Craig Hamilton is a former Durham County Champion.
No member has had a greater impact on the golfing scene as Robert Dinwiddie. In 2005 Robert completed a 4 year degree course in the USA and during that time he became the No. 1 overseas collegiate golfer.
That was just the beginning of an incredible year for Robert. Having already represented his country in the Home Internationals. He won the Scottish and Welsh Amateur Championships in successive weeks. This was followed by the ultimate accolade of being selected for the GB&I Walker Cup team to play in the USA. We will all remember his fantastic chip in on the final hole to salvage a half against his American opponent. Robert then went on to win the individual title in the Copa Simon Bolivar in South America. He recently distinguished himself with victories against a strong French team in France.
On 21st May 2006 he won the Brabazon Trophy, the English Amateur StrokePlay Championship in horrendous conditions at Gaton.
The golfing world has not heard the last of Robert Dinwiddie who has been made an Honoray member of the Club in recognition of his achievements.
More Accolades For Robert Dinwiddie
Robert won the North Yorkshire / South Durham Championship at Castle Eden and quickly followed this with a victory in the Tillman Trophy held at Alwoodley. In the process he beat most of the top amateurs in the Country.
He will soon be trying for his card on the U.S. Professional circuit.
The club wishes him well.
